Voyage de la Coquille

Expédition scientifique, menée à travers le monde par Duperrey, à bord de la Coquille, entre 1826 et 1830.

Un voyage exceptionnel à plus d’un titre.

Au-delà du recensement considérable d’espèces animales et de relevés topologiques (Les îles Gilbert lui doivent d’exister sur les cartes, par exemple) qui y furent menées, cette expédition est aussi la première à ne recenser aucune perte humaine, entre autres grâce à l’utilisation avant-gardiste de conserves alimentaires.

Les illustrations qui nous restent de ce voyage témoignent du regard tendre et respectueux posé sur une nature rencontrée pour la première fois par l’équipage de la Coquille.
