Katsushika Hokusai est un peintre, dessinateur et graveur japonais du XVIIIe siècle (ère d’Edo).

Son œuvre extravagante et révolutionnaire pour l'époque lui valu quelques incompréhensions et le surnom de Gakyōjin, littéralement « Vieux Fou de dessin ».

Ce que personne ne sait à l'époque, c’est que La grande vague de Kanagawa, qu’il peint alors qu’il a déjà 71 ans, deviendra un jour l’une des images les plus iconique au monde. Elle a inspiré le logo Quiksilver, elle a même son propre émoji.
